Orange County gem: Fountain Valley Skating Center brings in all types of skaters

Whether you’re a seasoned skater or putting on roller skates for the first time, the Fountain Valley Skating Center invites people of all ages and skill levels to join the fun at one of the most popular roller rinks in Orange County.

With weekly skating sessions 18+ Atomic Skate Jam, 25+ R&B Night, Cheap Skate Night, 30+ Coffee Klatch, Family Night, and more, the Fountain Valley Skating Center has skating sessions for all demographics.

On Sundays from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the roller rink hosts open skating for all ages before transitioning to the Adult Night 21+ session.

Night manager Josh Burdett said that the most popular night is R&B night every Thursday, getting numbers as high as 300 on a busy night, which is one of his favorite nights to work.

One of his main tasks as night manager is to oversee and train new employees at the rink.

“Getting people to go above and beyond what they normally used to do on a daily basis has been great because they’re like ‘I want to go out and skate’,” Burdett said. “‘Well go to this class that we have’ and then they learn and go on the floor, and start promoting yourself and the business. That’s the key.”

Burdett said that learning people skills and dealing with multiple types of personalities as a new employee is a big priority during training.

Roller Rink staff member Carly Schuester, who started working in August of just last year, said she has grown within her different positions at the rink alongside her co-workers, feeling a strong sense of community whenever she’s there.

“I think my favorite part of the job is getting to work with everybody because every time I’m here, it doesn’t feel like I’m at work, that’s why I have never complained about this job—unless it’s the customers. But when I come here, it’s like going to school, but without the learning, it’s just fun,” Schuester said.

The skating rink also provides special events such as all day skate, stroller skate, king of pop nights and summer skating to switch up the themes.

In addition to ticket prices, the rink box office requires a skate rental fee of $7.50 for those without skates.

With amenities like a snack bar, arcade games, sock and skate rentals, bathrooms and lockers, the skating rink has the necessary facilities and equipment to make your trip memorable and worthwhile.

During younger skate sessions, the floor DJ will put on activities like the Cha Cha Slide and roll the dice games for kids.
